IVAN MOSE - Home Inspection Services, Montreal, Quebec
"At a time when your emotions are high, we are there to be a neutral advisor, to explain problems or defects and give you a fair assessment of the home so you can make an informed decision. As inspectors, we are not there to convince you to buy a building."

With over 2000 inspections under his belt, Ivan approaches an inspection with an experienced eye, but also with continued enthusiasm for his work. "In my car on the way to the inspection, I'll think about what I might see, what is typical to that type of building, where it is, that sort of thing. I really enjoy doing it."

After a 25-year career as an electrical engineer and project manager for companies including Pratt and Whitney and the Department of National Defence, Ivan decided to turn his renovation and construction hobby into a profession. In 2002, he completed Vanier College's Residential Building Inspection Program followed in 2006 by the Carson Dunlop course for Inspection of Commercial Buildings.

With a stellar track record inspecting homes on his own, Ivan put his energy and management experience into building a business. He focused on assembling a team of inspectors that shared the same core values; inspectors that were keen to share information and resources. "Mose inspectors share a certain standard of professionalism. We have group meetings to share our knowledge, and discuss industry issues. Over the years, a Mose inspection has become something of a brand. Feedback is good."

For both buyers and members of his team Ivan is somewhat of a father figure. He lends an open ear, and is always happy to offer a neutral voice, or experienced advice. Ivan brings a wealth of experience to buyers and to his team in all aspects of building inspection. He has inspected condominiums, homes, multiplexes, commercial buildings and strip malls. He is a Certified Inspector of the Québec Association of Building Inspectors (AIBQ), an association that regulates the practice of building inspection in Québec; he is also a certified member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI ).

Ivan's goal is to continue to offer high quality, professional home inspection services with his team to clients in Montreal and the surrounding area. His favourite building to inspect? "I like the challenges of the older decrepit buildings. They're interesting, and they keep you on your toes."
Ivan Mose is a Home Inspector in Montreal, Quebec, who helps home buyers make informed decisions when buying their new homes.

LIAM COX - Home Inspection Services, Montreal, Quebec
"I’m a very visual person; I’ve studied Design Engineering, and have an instinctual understanding of building structures and stress. Architecture taught me how to be meticulous, calculated, and creative, and I try to pass this knowledge on to clients when inspecting homes, identifying problems and ensuring they are understandable in the potential homeowner’s terms.”

Liam Cox comes to home inspection after spending most of his adult lifetime studying about and repairing buildings. At 12 years old, Liam picked up a trowel and built his first wall – his family was in the process of building an addition to their home, and he took to the task like a duck to water. “From an early age I have always enjoyed working in construction, I learned to embrace the creative thinking and sense of accomplishment that comes with the trade.”

In fact, Liam’s education embraces all things related to construction and design. He completed a Mechanical and Production Engineering apprenticeship in England in 1999 and an Honours degree at Bournemouth University in Design Engineering in 2003. While studying, he continued working in the construction industry during term breaks. He has used his knowledge in several countries including construction and renovation in England, timber framing, decks, fences, additions and renovations in Australia and in Canada, Liam continued to learn in the classroom and hands-on in the renovation business. He paid particular attention to learning the Canadian code of construction and what implications huge temperature swings from summer to winter have on building design.

Becoming a Home Inspector was a natural progression in Liam’s career path. He completed the Home Inspection Training Program in 2009 with Carson Dunlop Consulting Engineers. He has acquired the necessary knowledge and gained the valuable hands-on experience to operate as a Home Inspector and is a candidate to become a certified member of the AIBQ (Quebec Association of Building Inspectors).

ALEXANDER FUNSHTEIN - Home Inspection Services, Montreal, Quebec
"Home inspectors take on the job of finding problems, projecting what may be the future of the building, and explaining our findings so the buyer can understand whether the problem is serious or not. The way we present a problem can sometimes make or break the sale.

"One of the most important parts of my job is to communicate the problem well, so the buyer can understand the gravity of it."

World traveled, and fluent in English, French, Russian and Hebrew, Alex has a strong technical background. His education began with an engineering degree from the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute, and he worked as an engineer in Belarus for several years. He then moved to Israel to work as a radiologist and ultrasound technician in a hospital. There, he honed his communication skills, explaining test results to patients.

After immigrating to Canada, Alex completed a computer programming degree at LaSalle College. Soon thereafter, he took the Building Inspection Program offered by Institut Grasset; he hasn't turned back. "Home inspection brings together my communication and technical knowledge. I enjoy talking to people, helping them decide on their home. I check the technical condition of the building. I explain what they have to do to fix problems, to maintain the building. I try to guide people through their future home from a technical standpoint."

> Alex has been working with the Mose inspection team since 2006. Alex is fully insured and is an Certified Inspector in good standing of the AIBQ. He offers home inspection reports in English or French.

CAROL MOSE - Home Inspection Services, Montreal, Quebec
“People often ask me, when will the inspector be here? - She’s here, I tell them. They’re usually pleasantly surprised that their home will be carefully inspected by a woman.”

Carol Mose graduated at the top of her class in the Vanier College Home Inspection Program. The trade might just be in her blood. She has been assisting in the inspection of homes, condos and large complexes with her father, Ivan Mose, for several years. “I’m the daughter of a building inspector that’s been in the business for almost a decade and has conducted over two thousand inspections. Even before I started inspecting, I had an incredible base of knowledge just from listening to my dad around the dinner table.”

Hailing from a background in mathematics, Carol comes to home inspection with a head for logic and an eye for detail. Having worked professionally as a ceramicist, she brings a unique depth of knowledge about building materials such as concrete, brick, and plaster. - Not only can she tell if a brick building needs repair, but she can also tell the quality of the brick. “I remember looking a crumbling brick wall thinking ‘that brick was under-fired when it was produced, it’s too porous, too fragile for the Canadian climate.”

Carol has a knack for explaining complex problems in layman’s terms, putting clients who have little knowledge about home systems and repair at ease. She is very methodical and pragmatic in her approach to inspection, and makes sure to give the home a complete once-over before packing up her ladder and notebook.

When she’s not inspecting homes, Carol enjoys upgrading her 1928 duplex, and crafting high-end ceramics.

Carol is fully insured Inspector in good standing of the AIBQ (Quebec Association of Building Inspectors.) She is fluent in French and English.

CHARLES MATOS - Home Inspection Services, Montreal, Quebec
"When you buy a radio, or a car, you get a manual. With a house, there's no owner's guide. We [home inspectors] are like a mobile manual for houses. We point out the problems, but we also give people an explanation of how things are supposed to work, and advice on who to call when it doesn't. Through us, people get a much better outlook on what they're buying. I enjoy telling people how things work."

Charles called on the Mose Inspection team to help him with the purchase of his first three buildings before gutting each one from A to Z, including updating the electrical and plumbing systems. He learned a whole lot, and loved every minute of it. "I had a fun experience renovating. You're creating something, putting together a work of art. I love to look at the whole system, but also the fine details, the finishing."

His passion for renovation and houses led him to enroll in the Vanier Home Inspection Program and become an inspector himself. "I have a passion for it." he says. "I love houses. I love seeing something different, something new every time."

Charles is a people person. With ten years of working as an attendant with Air Canada, he's a skilled communicator, and enjoys making sure people are well taken care of. He sees between 500 and 1000 people a flight. He likes to talk, to express his ideas. "It's an important skill for a home inspector too."

With a lot of experience buying homes himself, Charles puts himself into the shoes of the buyer, and makes sure they know what they're getting themselves into. He provides detailed reports and takes the time to ensure the buyer understands any problems a home might have, and how those problems might be fixed.

Charles is a fully insured member in good standing of the AIBQ. He speaks and can provide reports in English or French. He also speaks Spanish and Portuguese.
